Learning at Shoreline

Our Ages

“I thought perhaps 3 might be too young to start my child in school. Wow! I couldn’t have been more wrong. My son is thriving and would be happy if school were seven days a week!”

The Shoreline School of Montessori is a Montessori preschool that educates children who are 2.9 – 6 years of age, primarily from Guilford, Branford, North Branford and Madison, CT. Mixed age groupings enable children to learn from one another and because of one another. Younger children get a chance to look ahead by watching the older children. Older children have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge by sharing with the younger students. In order to be eligible for admission, a child must be 3 years of age by December 31 of the admitting year and independent in the process of toileting. A child remains in the Montessori classroom through kindergarten.

After attending our school, most children progress to first grade, adjusting in both public and private schools quite easily. Montessori-educated children are often better students who spend their time in more productive ways because of their self-direction and positive attitude towards learning.

Our children think of themselves as learners and doers and thinkers. They view life as full of possibilities!

Our Classroom

“The physical space of this school is so beautiful. The teachers pay careful attention to maintaining a balance of aesthetic detail and sense of order.”

Parent Involvement

The staff encourages parent involvement through parent-teacher conferences, observations, discussions, and parent evenings including parent workshops. The more the parents can understand the experiences of the child in the classroom, the more the child benefits because a consistent environment can be developed in which to grow and develop at home as well as in the classroom.

The Montessori Classroom

The Shoreline School of Montessori classroom is a “prepared environment” where children can learn the joy in discovering the world around them. The child is free to proceed, with guidance, at his own pace—from simple activities to more complex ones. In this individualized setting, children work at distinctly different paces and skill levels with our full range of beautiful Montessori materials in a carefully designed Montessori classroom.
